When you call to schedule an appointment, a designer will come to your home to discuss your vision for your custom island. You tell us what you want – be it a high-tech BBQ grill, a refrigerator, a stove, an outdoor gas fireplace, or all of the above.
The size of your island is directly dependant on the elements you would like to include. Like pieces of a puzzle, we will put together a mock up of what your creation will look like on our magnetic design board. If you like what you see, we will take it one step further and stage it two dimensionally in the intended outdoor space. This step is crucial as it gives you a chance to visualize the actual size of the island and how realistically it will fit into your lifestyle. We have found that approximately 50% of the time the design needs to be restructured. With the competition, you wouldn't know it was too big until it was too late.
The next step is to select the materials, appliances and accessories you would like to feature in your island. How would you like to finish it – with stucco? River rock? Ledgestone? How about the countertops – concrete? Tile? Granite? Here is another opportunity for us to put our experience to work for you. For instance, if you select granite countertops, we will advise you that you must cover the entire area with shade. Granite absorbs heat very easily and can burn your skin when touched if it is left exposed.
Finally we return to our warehouse in Santa Clara and begin building your design. Unlike the competition, which usually cranes over one huge completed island, we bring your island to your home in pieces and complete it on site. This allows us to achieve a totally finished look by matching the paint colors on your house and adding other extra touches.
